What is CareJan?
CareJan is a bilingual caregiver marketplace and Domestic Referral Agency (DRA) operating under California Civil Code 1812.5095. We connect families seeking in-home care with caregivers who speak English and Farsi. CareJan does not employ, supervise, or screen caregivers. Families are responsible for verifying caregiver qualifications and conducting their own background checks.
How is CareJan different from a caregiver agency?
A caregiver agency (also known as a Home Care Organization or HCO) employs caregivers and directs their work. CareJan operates as a caregiver registry — a Domestic Referral Agency. We provide the matching platform; families hire caregivers directly. Families are responsible for verifying qualifications and conducting their own background checks. This gives you more control over scheduling, care preferences, and costs.
Do you have Farsi-speaking caregivers?
Yes. CareJan was built for the Persian and Iranian diaspora community in Southern California. Our platform is fully bilingual in English and Farsi, and many Farsi-speaking caregivers in Los Angeles, Orange County, Irvine, and San Diego are on the registry.
What is IHSS and how does CareJan help?
IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) is California's Medi-Cal program that pays for in-home care for eligible individuals. CareJan helps IHSS recipients find caregivers through our matching, which is always free. If you're looking to become an IHSS provider, you'll need to complete a Live Scan background check, attend county orientation, and submit forms SOC 426 and SOC 846.

CareJan serves families throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange County, Irvine, San Diego, Beverly Hills, Glendale, Encino, Tarzana, Santa Monica, and surrounding communities. We're expanding our service area as our caregiver network grows.
How do I become a certified caregiver in California?
To become a certified caregiver in California, you'll typically need to complete a state-approved training program, pass a background check (Live Scan), and register with the appropriate county agency. For IHSS providers specifically, you must attend county orientation and submit forms SOC 426 and SOC 846. Once certified, you can join CareJan's caregiver registry for free to find families who need your services.
Is CareJan free for families?
Joining, browsing and submitting a care request are free. IHSS provider matching is always free. If a private-pay introduction carries a CareJan referral fee, the fee and its terms are shown for the proposed booking before you accept and pay. Caregiver wages are agreed separately between the family and caregiver; the referral fee is charged to the family and is not deducted from those wages.
What does in-home care cost in Southern California?
The cost depends on the agreed rate, hours, tasks and schedule. Families and caregivers agree those terms directly. Our cost guide uses clearly labeled budgeting examples to help you compare proposals; it is not a survey of current local rates. Ask for an itemized proposal, including any separate CareJan referral fee. IHSS provider matching through CareJan is always free.
What if the caregiver isn't the right fit?
You choose whom to engage. Review the cancellation and refund terms you accepted, discuss any change with the caregiver, and settle the hours already worked. You can contact CareJan to ask about another introduction; availability depends on your location, schedule and needs.
